Jessie Rose Vala is an artist working in sculptural ceramics, mixed media, and installation. Her work engages object making and time-based projects with consideration and development of counter-narratives exploring speculative ecologies and myth making. Through the use of sculptural materials such as stoneware, glass, bronze and neon Vala envisages archaic translations and chimeric worlds inhabited by animal, vegetal and human figures.
Vala has exhibited at Truck Gallery (Calgary, Canada), Evergold Gallery (San Francisco, CA), Present Company (Brooklyn, NY), Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art (Eugene, OR].She has received grants from the Oregon Arts Commission, PICA, and the Ford Family Foundation. Vala curates and works collaboratively with a multitude of artists and is currently career faculty at University of Oregon.
